Passed our winter "stress test" with flying colors!
I live up here in New Hampshire. Last Thanksgiving eve we had a Nor-Easter hit us with about 6 - 7 inches of very heavy wet snow. Needless to say the power did not stay on for long. I had a sick feeling we where going to loose power when I hear tree branches snapping all around me.
We lost power about 6:30 in the evening. Thanksgiving day I had to dig a path by hand so that I could back Big Blue onto the driveway, about 30 feet. I then had to climb up on the roof and shovel show!
We are on a well & had no water to fill the fresh tank. I was able to drive over to a my sister-in-laws house & take on 90 gallons of water.
Now I was able to spin all systems up & we stayed very comfortable for the next 4 days.
Actually, The power was out for 2 days but we decided to spend an additional 2 days in the Discovery!
While no power we kept the forward furnace running, it heats the basement with the tanks. We had both full & headboard slide extended.
Ran off the inverter and in when we started the genset to charge the house batteries I was able to run a heavy duty ext. cord into the house so that the fridge & freezer could recover while generator was running.
When the power was restored I connected the shore power cable & ran off of a 20amp outlet to keep the batteries charged up. Did have a minor freeze-up in the wet bay. The furnace vent is at the far end of the basement. I placed a small ceramic heater in the wet bay & water was flowing in just a few minutes. Will have to move my 60watt incandescent bulb to the end where the valves & such are located.
It was a great experience. Do have to keep a close eye on the systems when the temps get down to the lower teens. One evening it got down to 6 deg.!!
Just finished draining the tanks and topped off both diesel & propane. Our motorhomes have saved our bacon a number of times! I'm hoping to rent the house & full time starting next year, I wish it would start 1/1/2015!!

Lots of trees where taken out. The White Birch trees too the brunt of the damage.
