Plas-T-Cote Rubber Roof Coating

I think I'm going to try the Plas-T-Cote Rubber Roof Coating. my roof is in pretty good shape but it is grayish black colored now and needs up dating. I do have one area that I need to repair around the antenna mount. Can I just cut the rubber roof, peel it back some, repair the wood, and then tape the roof back down before applying the Plas-T-Cote Rubber Roof Coating?

  • I just did my 5'ver with Plas-T-Cote Rubber Roof Coating last season. Happy with the results.

When I called the company to explore it more they told me to use Tide detergent powder (not liquid) for the cleaning prior to coating. I must admit it really took off a lot of the white chalking and I'm glad I did it.

I used a brush to edge and a roller to do the large parts. In hindsight, I now wish I used a brush on the whole roof. The parts that I used a roller seem thin to me while the brush parts are looking great. I used 1.5 gallons on a 34'fter.

  • I don't know if you can repair the rubber roof the way you described, and I don't know the correct way to actually do that. However, I did coat my rubber roof with Plas-T=Cote Rubber Roof Coating some 10 years ago as a preventive measure and I think it helped reduce ageing and prolong the life of my roof. My coach is now 20 years old and the roof has never leaked and I've never had a problem.

RV manufacturers suggest cleaning rubber roofs with a mild soap, soft brush and plenty of water, but no coatings are recommended.
