- greenrvgreenExplorerThe specs for the 6500 DO say "Inverter" as well as "fuel economy switch" here:
http://www.powerhouse-products.com/powerhouse_product/ph6500ri/
While the 4000 says neither, but looks similar. Maybe it really is synchronous?
The 6500 inverter will stream 6000 watts (according to the specs), which is more than twice the power output of a Honda 3000, but only 38 pounds heavier.
My personal experience with the 2700, which is rated to stream 2600 watts continous, is that it will stream 2600 watts all day without issue. - DrewEExplorer II

Thanks. Big, heavy and loud. Looks like a poor choice for camping. not clear if its
inverter style either.
They mention nothing in the spec sheet about it being an inverter type. It does say max rpm is 3600. So I'd say it's a heavier, louder and more expensive version of my Champion 3500/4000 that runs fine at 10,000 ft even if it has a carb.
The specs indeed don't mention that it's an inverter generator (which is a rather odd omission), but the PDF brochure indicates that it is. "Powerhouse inverter technology delivers clean, clear power that won’t damage sensitive electronics like laptops, flat screen TV’s and game consoles."
I wonder if you can start it with the recoil starter when the generator's battery is dead, or if you need some power for the EFI system to work. If you need the battery, the manual pull starter seems to me to be somewhat superfluous. - JiminDenverExplorer II

Both are inverter generators, and both are better than Honda/Yamaha at power output, weight, design, quality of workmanship, reliability and also price.
I am surprised to see so many "considerate" campers dismiss the Powerhouse gennies when they have never seen them, heard them or used them. I bought the 2700 because it produces the same power as a Honda 3000 at close to half the weight. Moreover, it is "suitcase" shaped so that it can be lugged around (painfully), whereas the Honda 3000 is an awkward cube shape and weighs 150 pounds. Go ahead and carry that!
The Powerhouse 500 is the only sub-1000w inverter gennie that I'm aware of. At 21 pounds, it is almost easier to carry than my solar panels than I partner it with. It sips gas, is reasonably quiet (not silent), and is remarkably handy. I wish I could pair it with another; if I could I'd buy another! Highly recommended!
No surprise to see the same tired old names quacking off about non-Honda/Yamaha gennies being used in campgrounds. In this day and age, what kind of third-rate ghetto campground doesn't have hookups? My gennies are for boondocking, and I never park next to neighbors. - 2oldmanExplorer IIThanks. Big, heavy and loud. Looks like a poor choice for camping. not clear if its

They have at least one model with electronic fuel injection.
model PH4000Ri/E is fuel injected. Comes with remote start and will run properly at 8,000. At Camping world with is the highest priced place in town its $1700. The Honda 3000 is well over $2000. Maybe with the Powerhouse coming out EFI it will force Honda to do the same - 2oldmanExplorer II
