Question for converter/charger gurus

My current MH came with a Parallax 7345 converter/charger. Since that was junk, I replaced it with a PD4655V.

I am trading off my MH next week and getting a new Airstream trailer. The Airstream comes with a Parallax 8355 converter/charger.

Am I right in assuming it is junk too?

Thanks,

Bobbo

Strong? Does WFCO actually charge at 14.4 volts as promised?

Funny thing is, my junk parallax is still going strong after 14 years in our old tt now owned by a friend. My junk WFCO is still fine after 5 years in our current tt. All of our friends have the same junk converter chargers with zero problems. Junk is relative so spend your money safe you wish.

I too read some of that but BESTCONVERTERs says this about the PARALLAX 8300 series...

    "8300 Series
Parallax 8300 series (formerly 7300 series) are single-stage output converters providing a single voltage output of 13.8 VDC to the DC system for load and battery charging.

For a more modern multi-stage upgrade, consider the Inteli-Power 4600 series or the Ultra III. These units will vary the voltage output depending on the State of Charge of the house batteries for faster charging and will greatly extend battery life."

Gotta go with Randy at BESTCONVERTERS...

I guess what we are seeing is the 8300 is the Power Distribution center and you need to make sure what the Model Number of the converter/charger unit is that sits inside the 8300 Distribution Center.

X2 on Need more info needed... You certainly do not want to have a single mode 13.6VDC converter/charger unit...

  • OK needs more research. The 8300 is the power centre which apparently?? comes with a Parallax 4400 converter. That converter has an optional plug in module you can get that has the TempAssure. (uses a long wire out to the battery where the temp sensor on the end of the wire goes. They are calling that module the "upgrade"

ISTR it needs that module or else it is 13.6v only? Get back to you on that. Yes--with the TC it will start off at 14.1 nominal(adjusted for temp) every time and drop to 13.6 nominal

I had a 4455TC a few years ago and it worked well till I fried it somehow, changing things around in my rig.
