Rear AC not working with generator

Hello I am brand new to RVing. I bought a used RV from a friend who bought it new. I have a 1993 Damon Frontier Flyer. It has 30 amp service. When I plug in the book says I can run either AC but not both. In the back bedroom there are two switches (they look like light switches) If I put them both up it is for Rear AC when plugged in. Both down for Front AC when plugged in. Both up when running generator will allow both units to run. When I went camping everything was working correctly. Yesterday I tried using both with the generator but the rear AC would not kick on. I tried every combination with the switches and switched off and back on both the 30 amp breaker and the 20 amp breakers on the generator: rear AC will not come on. I shut off generator and plugged in RV to my garage and the rear works fine when properly switched. Any ideas? Thank you

  • If you are trying to use electricity while plugged in AND using the generator at the same time the RV will always default to the "higher" current - in this case being plugged in

Now...if you have the built in generator and are saying that the rearAC will not work while on generator power only some RV's don't have a transfer switch (which I believe applies to you) therefore you will have to plug the RV directly into the generator
