Replaced cooling unit - now getting too cold

Last week I replaced the cooling unit on my 10yr old Dometic 2652 with a refurbished Amish unit. The install went smoothly, got everything put back into place yesterday and per manufacturer recommendation I first tested on electric shore power. THe unit cooled down quickly within an hour or two but then kept cooling to the point the fridge got down below 30*. My old unit would before it ruptured would get down to ~40* and hold there. I have not yet tested on LP but I suspect it will do the same.

Any ideas why the new unit continues to cool to the point of freezing the fridge?

  • Couple of things......

Are you operating the fridge in 'manual' mode (vs 'auto').
If so it will continue to cool & cool. Manual mode bypasses the pre-set thermostat control.

You fridge uses a pre-set thermostat (no temp adjustment on upper panel)
The 'thermistor' regulates temp in food section. It is a sensor that goes inside a plastic clip that is attached to cooling fin in food section.
The bulb of sensor should just protrude from top of plastic clip and it should be attached to right fin about mid-position.
Moving the plastic clip 'up' causes more cooling
Moving the plastic clip 'down' less cooling

If 'thermistor' is not in clip or on fin the fridge can cool continuously causing food section to freeze.
Same thing if 'thermistor' is bad.

    You can test thermistor
Disconnect the thermistor harness from the P2, 2-pin terminal on the lower circuit board.
Place the thermistor in a glass of ice water, approximately 33°F to 35°F.
    Wait 2 to 3 minutes.
You should get a reading of approximately 7,000 to 10,000 ohms

IF thermistor tests good and you are not using manual mode then the lower circuit board is the problem
  • Got it. I seem to recall that white slider is attached to one of the metal racks, and not on one of the cooling fins which would be a problem. Sounds like an easy fix. Will try tonight and report back.

  • Did you adjust the slider on the fins inside the box. that maybe the problem, may need to go up a little
  • OK where is the thermistor on these units and how does one adjust?
