Replacing Xantrex Prosine 2,0 Recommendations

The third Prosine 2.0 inverterd/charger has died.

Very little room near batteries. SEE PIC

since then in electric bay below the charger is the SC 2030 solar controler and shunt for the Trimetric 2030 monitor.

Need +/- 100A charging and easy to set charge parameters. (4 X 6V GS, 480 AH total)

2KW PSW

Could go separate charger and transfer switch but where to put them?

Recommendations?

X2. From the looks of it that may be why you've gone through 3 very fine ICs.

You're doing a lot better than many reviews on that inverter. And MW's don't usually run well on MSW.

but didn't you say you were going to ventilate that compartment
there is simply too much heat there and NO air flow
what ever goes in there is going to COOK, unless you get some fresh air movement thru there
use down turned dryer duct vents with screens and fans
but do something to move air thru there

What do you do with that? Plug your shore cord into it?

I haven't run into any issues with the shore cord in one outlet and seeing 120a or so on the Trimetric when running the MW. Not sure if that is true about the outlets. I have heard you need to use a second outlet to get full 3000w above the 15a/120 though.

Yes, shore cord into inverter, converter off Fridge/WH on gas. I can run the MW, toaster, or kettle no sweat. I gave up on the smaller inverter for the small things, and just use this one for the big things. I now just use this one big one even for small loads. I posted about that "small inverter scam" a while back.

I do use the remote on /off so it is only on when being used for something. EG I can use this inverter to run the CFL reading lamp and it uses fewer amps from the battery than a small inverter in the 12v Winegard socket or by using a 12v lamp above the sofa.

Normally more than one thing is being used. EG, watching a DVD movie on TV with that CFL lamp on, or else read a book under that lamp while listening to music using the DVD player to run CDs and a powered 2.1 speaker set.

Turn everything off for bedtime. Morning, turn on the inverter to run the electric toaster to make proper toast, and the kettle to make coffee. ( Note-we are not coffee snobs but the inverter could handle that too if we were. :) )

It is all so easy! :)

  • This is what we use for everything. It is MSW, but nothing we have needs PSW. Grab it fast before the price goes back up. These things go on sale a few times a year but hard to predict when. Same with the 2000, which would also work.

If you have something that needs PSW that is low power you can get a second, smaller PSW inverter just for that. Way cheaper total than a monster PSW.

A 100amp charger with adjustable voltage can be had for not much money too. Is it to also be your converter or can you go 100 amp charger plus a ? amp converter? Important--what generator do you run the 100 amp charger with? (Decides whether you need the charger to be PF corrected or not)
  • Dang, every time I start fantasizing that my Prosine 2.0 might last, another post like this pops up. Besides what's been mentioned, Kisae has an inverter/charger that looks to be an approximate equivalent of the Prosine 2.0, and a 60 amp charger that can use a remote panel.
  • Magnum makes a good product, but might be a bit tall for that space. Outback too.. check them out. You'll pay, but they're really good stuff. 3 Pros? wow.. bummer

If you run high-draw appliances consider 24 or 36v.
