Running lights - Sealing methods

Hello,
2003 Wini Mini 24V. Looking to replace running lights (mudded up in some type of sealant and most have cracked orange lenses) with LED units. They look cool... I am hoping the feeds have plugs for the new LED's (planning to match as closely as possible to a Grote product) and then seal with a lump of Dicor lap seal. Any other ideas/suggestions to accomplish this with maximum chance of a successful leak free installation. Thank you

  • My LED running lights and one tail light leaked inside the fixture, you could see water inside. They were supposed to be completely sealed shut and waterproof. The tail-light I could crack open and dry out, then re-glued it with epoxy. The running lights I had to replace.

When re-affixing the lights to the trailer I applied the usual polyurethane sealant. dicor-type stuff to the back of the light and screwed it back in place, making sure there was enough sealant to squeeze out all the edges. Then tried to clean up the mess.:)
  • I used double sided 2" wide eternabond tape as a gasket between the light and the body when I replaced my TT incandescent marker lights with LED ones

I think this varies by manufacturer. My lights came caulked top and sides (not the bottom) and leaked. I cleaned, caulked the wire hole inside the fixture, then caulked all 4 sides of the base. Leak stopped. I think at least the front lights need to be caulked on all 4 sides since traveling down the highway will force water to run uphill into the fixture if the bottom is left un-caulked.

Dicor is good but OEM spec's will match color better IMO.
