- mlts22Explorer II15 amps and 20 amps... Not enough to really use for anything more than one circuit. I'll pass. I could use a "real" manual transfer switch for the same effect.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIII have a much simpler version of that device.. I will describe.
First: I DO NOT have an Energy Manger (Load shedding type) so the wire goes direct from ONE circuit breaker to the A/C. (And from another to the other A/C)
At least that is the factory hookup.
Using 12ga wire (20 amp rated) for the 13.5 amp A/Cs. I found the lead to the REAR A/C.. And disconnected it from the power panel.. All 3 wires.
I then ran a brand new 12ga from the power panel, using the original breaker, to the outside of the RV where there is an outlet. This can be in most any non-wet basement compartment if you like.
I then ran a 12ga cord back to the back of the power panel where a Junction Box connects the new wire to the original.
IDEALLY (I did not do this) i would have put a 20 amp breaker in this final new line... I choose to trust the park's 20 amp breaker.
How it works
Plug A/C cord into outlet... Original setup
Unplug and using a 12ga Cord from Sears or K-mart with the push button on the outelt end.. Modified Rear A/C now runs on park 20
Side benefit.. Need air compressor on Driver's side.. I've an outlet. - wolfe10ExplorerLooks like a manual transfer switch-- should make/break both hot and neutral. EITHER main shore power cord OR auxiliary/second shore power cord IN-- 2nd A/C or whatever you want on the "OUT" side.
Some wiring involved:
1. Separate out hot and neutral for those things you want to run on that system. Wire to the "OUT" side of the new box.
2. New wires for the hot and neutral from RV main breaker box breaker that went to power that circuit to the new transfer switch. Check instructions, but likely add ground from main breaker box to this auxiliary box. And likely tie to ground for new shore power cord as well.
3. Wire to side of coach or wherever you want to connect the new shore power cord.
Buy new 10 gauge extension cord.
No not a plug and play, but doable.
