Many people successfully run a PD9245 45 Amp charge controller and an EU1000i generator together. It is, however, important, to let the EU1000i motor be started and warm up for 2 or 3 minutes before plugging in the charge controller. It's just common sense to warm something up before you make it start working hard. So fire the generator up in regular mode, let it run 2 or 3 minutes, until the whole engine is warmed up and up to correct operating temperature, plug the charger in, and THEN switch the generator into ECO mode for charging. Let the motor be up and free revving when it gets the full brunt of the load from the charger, and then switch it back down to ECO mode. A PD9245 and a Honda EU1000i make a good pair for dry camping, if you don't need the microwave or the AC.
BEfore you store your Honda Generator away, take a coin, and pull the side cover off, and then take a small bladed screw driver, and drain the float bowl area of the carburetor, you will see a clear hose attached to the bottom of the carburetor, at the lowest point on it. Unscrew that screw, and a couple of teaspoons of gas will drain out of the carb. when the fuel stops running, tighten the screw, choke the carb like you are going to start it, while the motor is in the "off" position, and pull the starter rope 3 times, to suck all the fuel out of the jets. You are now good to store.
It will take 15 to 20 pulls the next time you need to start your generator, for the fuel pump to prime the carbs fuel float bowl from being drained and stored empty. Be patient, it will start.
