- MEX, I think it is a refrigerant leak that starts the fire not any of the automatic electronic controls.
I thought it was the thin metal used in the boiler that fails.
Please correct me if I am wrong. - Bionic_ManExplorerLooks like it was contained pretty quickly. Also looks like the furnace is in that spot as well.
- rk911Explorer3rd choice...opt for a different RV fridge (think Dometic) or insist on a residential style even if not offered as an option. any decent RV dealer can make that happen. we don't need more govt.
- azrvingExplorerI have what I consider much a older rig. 2000 FW and it was in the recall serial number range. It is a little crazy to have something with a known problem like that and keep extra fire extinguishers around.:S
I also pay attention to residential/solar threads for the day it croaks. Hopefully we dont go with it.
People I have talked to say be sure it's level all the time. If it's unlevel by very much such as when traveling or pulling in various off angle areas, shut it off until it's level. ????? - Shadow_CatcherExplorerSince we have a teardrop trailer we do not have the typical RV fridge. Our Waeco 120VAC 12VDC has the form factor of a large cooler/ice chest.
Compressor driven, no problems.
I have heard of "Amish" replacement units that work and are built to last.
There are how ever more than a few problems and at least one death
Exploding RV Refrigerator - Tom_BarbExplorerMore government and higher costs.
Or
Higher trailer insurance.
Your choice - RJsfishinExplorerI been here for a while,.....first I ever read of a fridge fire.
- pasusanExplorerWell, the older ones don't seem to have the problem... I thought it was because they were cheaping out on the thickness of the metal that they make the coolant tubes from.

The refer fire discussions are usually about blowing up the gas station, not the refer or the rv.
I cannot believe this from someone who's been on here longer than I have.
Here's my solution... NoCold 1200 coming out.
This is how I switched them out.

My Dometic would have done that or worse had I not been right there and that was after I had the recall kit installed.
As a firefighter and former fire chief that recall kit is a band aid that don't work.
I would not even call it a band aid, it is a CYA from the RV legal departments that will someday come out and bite the industry very hard.
