Seafoam question on old equipment

I've had good results with seafoam with all my carb engines. And I've also had a very bad experience with a fuel injected engine. I have a couple lanterns. One of them is very old Coleman lantern (unsure of age but original box does not have zip code printed) I have replaced the generator and pump and still something is wrong. When I use this lantern it is very hard to get going and keep going maybe and fear it is on its last leg. Inside the fuel tank I can see a lot of junk built up. Old single mantle with the "light in the forest" design.

Question: Would seafoam help or hurt or would it matter? Any thing else that would give it a internal cleaning. What is your opinion?

  • I love that stuff. Has made me look like a hero many a time. Nice to see the response you got from them. Warms the cockles ;) :B
  • OP here...got reply from Seafoam as to using it to clean out lanterns.

    Subject: Seafoam in Coleman lanterns?

    Message Body:
My Coleman lantern has a build up of junk in the gas can, easely seen with a flashlight. Any problem using Seafoam to clean it out? Or would this be a bad idea?

No problem at all I use Sea Foam in my bullet heater all the time to control moisture and clean the burner.

  • I have used it on older equipment that sat for years and it works, so I would give it a try. Seafoam is the only one I will use.
  • Give it a try and let us know, I think it could help the situation.
