Everyone feels that the internet took Sears and Other retailers down. Actually I think it's the management that killed them. When I went to Sears today, my wife found the jeans she wanted with no help from a sales person. We had to look all over the sales floor ourselves until we found them. Then we stood in line at the only checkout that was manned for 30 minutes just to pay for the items. This same shopping experience would have taken less than twenty minutes on line.

When you make the process of purchasing your merchandise more difficult, who wouldn't look for a better shopping experience.

It seems to me that the last service you would want to cut back would be the means of paying for your purchases.

Their parts department sucks. Last year I had the misfortune of having my refrigerator die then a month later my oven died. I fixed them both myself, so I only needed the parts.

The refrigerator (Kenmore) needed a thermostat. $85 at Sears parts, less than $20 on Amazon. Same manufacturer, same part number.

The oven (GE) needed an igniter. $80 at Sears, $20 on Amazon. Not sure if it's the same manufacturer, but it lights the oven!

Seems to me-they are the ones who spoiled it for everyone else.

Either Sears stands behind the Craftsman warranty or they don't. These yard sale guys own a Craftsman product, why shouldn't the warranty be honored?

Sears got paid unless the tools were stolen.

Let's go over this. I go to a garage sale and buy a broken wrench for .50 cents. I then go to Sears and trade it in for a new $10.00 wrench.

I guess you and I have a moral gap.

Makes no difference to Sears if someone returns a broken tool for a new one or if they sell it to someone else for 50 cents and they return it for a new one. Either way, there was a broken tool that was replaced.

As always, I will make adjustments. I remember back in the mid '50's I would go with older brother to the, I think, 5th floor on Ponce De Leon Ave. in Atlanta and buy Fishing Tackle and tools from opened/damaged packages at a real discount.
Still have a Full set of Craftsman. The only tools I recall getting swapped out was a 1/2" drive ratchet and a few screwdrivers and in all fairness I was to blame on their breaking.
We shop the internet more as we get older.

Time, yes. Sears management then had vision. They did after WWII by the building hundreds of big retail stores too. Their eyes then grew dim.
