Shurflo 5.7 Update

Well, when I got home, I took the water pump apart to find out why it was running constantly at idle. Checked the diaphram and it looked fine.
I was looking at the drive assembly housing and noticed the center of the plastic housing was pretty severly cracked??? I'm assuming it was cracked on the assembly line? Anyway, I've got a deal on another one. I'll just keep the defective one for parts if I need it later. Thanks again for all your help!

  • To paraphrase what SCVJeff has said (very patiently): The Company is GOOD, the 5.7 model is BAD. Stop fiddling with the 5.7 model and stop bad mouthing the company. CALL the company (not email). Even if they can't rplace the pump (with the 4048), they can still likely help you.
  • You might want to call the factory and see if they will just replace it. They did stand behind the product for me and replace it.

Also kudos to Sleep Number that just replaced my 3rd compressor for free. There's a few good ones left..
  • SCVJeff,
Thanks for the info. If I had gone through that many pumps, I sure wouldn't promote them either. I'll see how this 2nd one works? Between that and my first one as parts, I hope I'll be able to make the most of them.:)
  • I doubt they've publicly said "we screwed up", but That conversation took place with the folks at the SurFlo booth in Quartzsite 2 years ago. At the time they said that it was a defective design and had been redesigned, so like an idiot I bought another. Since then there are lots of posts about it on the 3 major RV forums as well. They are doing the right thing and swapping mine out with a 4048 (iirc). How well it performs is yet to be seen. It's a pretty expensive pump, so we'll see if it stays or ends up as a spare for a FloJet

This pump has been plagued since day one and the forums are covered with people who have had and replaced them more than once, including me. It's apparently core design flaw that they have tried to redesign at least once without success.

I blew my second one last week, flooding a storage bay, after only 2 occasional use years and the factory is replacing it with a completely new model for free. They too have given up on the entire 5.7 line. Out of production, and no service.

Interesting about the discontinuance of this pump. Has Shurflo ever owned up to all the problems? After going to their website, it appears they are still promoting the 5.7 pump for larger units and the 4.0 for medium sized units?? I'll give their pump one more try, but if I have problems again, I'll probably just look at changing name brands entirely. After 30+ years of RVing, this is the first pump problem I have ever had.:( Oh well, just lucky I guess.
