Slide maintenance

Any recommendations for slide maintenance for our 2015 Keystone Summerland camper?

After some research I have thought about using one of the following:
  • Camco Slide Out Lube
  • WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube

Also maybe wiping down the inside out of slide with baby powder per this video.

Any thoughts on my ideas or something better/different?

Thank you,
Dean

  • The dealer stated the slide mechanism is a LCI from Venture. Does that make a difference?

You mentioned you use wax, what type of wax and how do you apply?

    Things I might try:
    • Do a "ProtectAll Slide-Out Rubber Seal Treatment" on the outside rubber seal.
    • Do one of these Camco Slide Out Lube, WD-40 Specialist Dry Lube or ProtectAll Slide-Out Dry Lube Protectant underneath on the slide rod with teeth.
    • Baby powder on inside slide where it touches wall when extended, as not to stick to wall.

Is there anything else easy to do for the slide?

  • Whatever you decide on using, don't forget to open up the underbelly to get at the parts that aren't exposed. I've had two campers with slide outs that squealed terribly until that portion of the slide mechanism's were lubed as well.
  • To answer correctly, we need to know what kind of slide mechanism is on your rv. Schwintek?, Power Gear?, etc... But, most rv places will use a dry lubricant to lube the actual slide mechanicals. (like a silicone spray) Now to lube and maintain your slide out SEALS.. I have always used the slide out lube in a can by Protect All, that comes out as a foam, and is rubbed into the rubber seal. I have seen that video from the RV geeks too... But i just can't see how a dry powder will make the actual rubber seal stay supple... It may help make the rubber slippery and not drag on the wall of the slideout... But i can use a wax for that, and wax the wall of the slideout... (which i do anyways)
