Slide out motor spinning freely.

Last year for winterization I pulled in the slides as I always do. Only I hadn't quite brought the one slide in all the way and I had already disconnected my batteries. So I went to use the crank for the last little bit. When I went to crank, it went clunk and then spun freely leaving me to push the last little bit in. Well I have now come back to a slide out that wont slide out. Manually or electrically. I unmounted the motor to see if anything sheared off and I did not notice anything of that sorts. I don't quite understand how the power is transferred from the motor to the sliding mechanism. That being said, the motor does work and spins freely indicating a mechanical issue and not electrical.

I have searched a bit and the only thing that might correlate to the problem would be a actuator. Any thoughts?

  • To finish this post off, it was the entire actuator arm that had snapped somewhere in the middle of the shaft. 500 dollar arm with motor assembly that was relatively easy enough to change out and install. Problem solved.

If the shear pin is the t shaped pin that goes into the notches than the motor is able to spin that.

  • Just guessing. Shear pin broken or a keyway split out. Look down the shaft coming from the motor or from the gearbox at the motor and have someone activate motor and see if it is spinning. If not, start looking for a shear pin in the shaft joints on the shaft.
Mine has a motors (one on each slide) that spin pulleys and cables that move it in and out - I do not like the system. If a cable breaks it looks like a bear to replace.
