Squealing from gas valve.

I'm camping at Gros Ventre campground in the Tetons and last night it got into the upper 20's and now one of my gas valves/regulator is squealing when connected and turned on.

I would consider this my "secondary" tank because its furthest from the main regulator which incorporates the tank selector switch and gas guage.

Looking at the documentation from Marshall I don't see this valve/regulator in their diagram of my system. According to the diagram its a straight shot from the main regulator to tank number two, nothing in between. Just the pigtail from the main assembly.

I don't mine buying this part from a gas distributer but there is no part number on it, and I can't show them why its there?

It's a red disc assembly and appears to be a regulator of some sort but for the life of me why is needed?? The main valve should take care of any pressure reduction.

I can take it out I guess but I'd rather not until I know what it's function is.

Thanks

Ron W.

  • Thanks for that info, at least I know what it does and I'll have a chance of getting the fight part.
  • RED Regulator on offside propane cylinder (roadside) is a single stage 30# High pressure regulator (unlike y=the main lp reg. which is a 2 stage low pressure reg)

It steps down the cylinder high pressure (200#) to 30# so that 'lower' pressure is feed across 5th wheel.
  • An important point to note is that under normal operation, a propane regulator will make a "humming" noise. This is normal and should not be construed as a problem or regulator malfunction.

I assume you have a 30 psi regulator and its there for code reasons.
  • Are you sure that is not an auto switch over and not a regulator. When one tank is empty it will shift to the other tank just a guess
