In small amounts it would be. It would be run with the oil to loosen up any sludge, and built up carbon. I would only run it in an engine that I knew was on the way out to see if it helped. Like that YouTube person, his hydraulic lifters were probably sludged up and they weren't getting enough oil up to the top of the engine and causing the lifter tick. Seafoam being basically thinner with some cleaning characteristics would liquify the sludge allowing the oil to get to the lifters etc.. I would not run it in the oil for an extended time, and change the oil soon after using it

I watched the video where he had a high mileage Ford ranger with the typical lifter tick etc.. he used seafoam in the oil, gas and the throttle body, and the tick was gone. Truck ran and idled better. He even did a one year update and the truck was still running and driving better. You sure he's not a fan?

So I found my old home grown formula for seafoam.

4 parts #1 diesel
2 parts Naptha
1 part Heet (ISO)

gonna go from #1 D to Kerosene since I have lost my supplier of #1 D in small quantities.

It's been this way forever. This forum is one of the consistently most hostile "help" forums I have ever seen.

At least 50% of the questions get a response somewhere in them that's basically, "Why are you so stupid to want to know/try that?"

And LeRoy, you are right -- the site's search function is indeed "challenging," to say the least. But it is much better than nothing. I use the asterisk "suffix expander" to make the search more comprehensive, and I click "all the words" instead of "exact phrase" for the same reason.

Also, Google can serve as a backup search tool -- use the domain name as a search term, in addition to the key words themselves. The Google advantage is that the native archival search bar in this forum lists prior responses chronologically, while Google usually prioritizes the results by the relative frequency of the key words within each document. So the cream rises to the top, at least in theory!!

bikendan, I have thought about leaving, but frankly the info here is too valuable to leave. And there are quite a few great folks who are active on the forums, so it would be a drag to surrender to the grouchy folks. ;)

This forum, or group of forums, is so valuable. You'd think that those of us who benefit from the advice (and who occasionally offer our own thoughts) would all want to promote usage, rather than discouraging questions and comments.

This change in the Forum, has been discussed in numerous threads. I think it's been getting worse, for at least 2 years. Numerous long time members have left because of the uptick in contentious posts.

I get very valuable information and enjoy the discussions and comments. The problem I have with the "search" feature is that occasionally I can't think of the proper phrase or key word to use in the search box. Then I finally ask the question again but most people just jump in and give advice and even reference past posts which cover my question.
