Had that problem where I worked and they finaly installed a carbon impregnaged cafet (Computer floor) it is condutive
The problem will be worse depending on what you are wearing on your feet. Beyond that I have little to offer not already covered. HUMIDITY is the cure.
One of the interesting things about static electriity is that properly discharged it is harmless.. I have been up to several thousand volts (Static) prhaps as high as a Million (We did not measure to all I can do is estimate) at that voltage your hair stands on end like the comic firghtened person or Dr. Zorba (Dr. Kildare TV show) or the mad scientist in many movies.
One of my class mates decided to heckle and ask "Now what do you do" I said "Walk up and shake hands with you" (Teacher and I got a good laugh. He was suddenly very lonely in the class room) Of course I did not take my hand off the Van-De-Gaff till the teacher discharged it, and me.
