I would not be looking at it as a static discharge shock but, as a possible open ground somewhere in your wiring system that's causing the shock. I can't see the humidity so low in a MH as to cause static shocks, with the normal characteristics of excess moisture in RV's 99% of the time.

Open ground and 'you' are now the best ground it is finding!

Pick up one of these at the hardware store and plug it into an outlet you'll know in an instant what the problem is.

It's been my experience that open grounds usually start at the shore station outlet from overuse and the ground wire is pulled loose or off.

Plug the tester into the shore station first and if there is an open ground light tell the CG owner.


When parked at a CG I leave this plugged into an outlet inside my MH at all times. Let's me know at a glance if anything is wrong.

Low humidity ?

Run a vaporizer or Install a grounding wire from camper to ground..but rockhill may be on to something, if your shore power is grounded, so should be your MH

Humidity is 12% . I looked at my shore power and ground is good as far as I can see . It goes into a cement block. I'll go into town and get a tester tomorrow. If it turns out to be my motor home were is the first place I should look . Thanks

Look at your shore power connector. 30 amp shore power look at the round pin. wiggle it. moves too much easily the wire has broken off.
Check in your 120 volt power distribution panel for loose connections. dis connect from shore power, then remove metal dead front to gain access.

LOW HUMIDITY BLUES...

You can ground the chassis to the earth's core with railroad iron and t ain't gonna help static electricity. Look at the principal of a Leyden Jar. Or better yet stand on a fiberglass ladder wearing rubber boots and grab a spark plug wire.

Go to the hardware/auto parts store. Grab a can of aerosol SILICONE SPRAY LUBRICANT. Take off your shoes. Spray the sole and the heel. Then wipe off the excess lube so it won't stain the carpet. Wipe it good. It doesn't take much lube to work.

With ZERO percent humidity, on HARDWOOD FLOORS I got zapped on my butt. Levi's material rubbing between pant legs.

Are you inside touching stuff inside, or outside standing on the ground touching the rig?? If you are inside, start wearing cotton underpants, if you are getting shocked outside, then you need to find out why, and quick! getting shocked between a rig and ground is not a laughing matter, and means that there is something seriously wrong!

Note that a static shock is usually just a quick zap and that is all. A elecgrical ground problem, will be felt every time, and may be a continous thing. Try unplugging from shore power and see if it still happens. That should be your first check. Not just turning off the breaker, actually unplug it.
