I do have enamel cast iron, but is sticky, and heavy for my van. And breakable, as I learned when a friend threw her cast iron frying pan across the kitchen during a fight with her husband. (Not AT the husband.)

Cast iron dutch ovens + tire capacity + arthritis = Low I.Q.

That's a good point even if I brought them, I would often not want to use them.

Yeah, induction does not seem to be ready for us decrepit people. Unless we want to buy new pans.

You make me feel a little bit like I think Donald Trump feels. The generator is running, the awnings are out, and 30,000 BTUs of refrigerated air is being ducted into the motorhome. I use the stove top(propane) AND the micro convection GE Advantage, to make chile verde con carne for my burritos. And, my wife makes excellent guacamole, AND margaritas. Well, she likes margaritas, but with food I prefer cold dos equis. Provecho

The bottom of the pot gets hot and some of that heat transfers to the glass surface of the induction hotplate. Maybe a different surface material would absrob less heat from the pot.

Guess this "secondary" heat can be a potential problem for the hotplate electronics as ours has a pretty noisy fan to keep things cooler inside.

Overall, however it seems quite a bit cooler than our propane burner. Perfect for bacon and eggs which take no time to heat up. Heating up a couple of litres of water will take a lot longer though and the noise may get irritating. A hot water kettle with its own element might be just as efficient for that.

We tried out an induction cooker and it really works very well. It heats water quicker than an open flame, which we know since we use a propane stove. The unit will get warm as some of the heat from the pot will transfer to the unit. But after boiling 4 cups of water, you could put you hand on the cooktop after removing the pot. You couldn't leave it there but it wouldn't instantly burn you, hot, but not like an electric element by any means. Much less heat is put out by the induction cooker.

An induction cooker is on the short list for the camper.

Recently obtained an induction burner and so far I LOVE it. Cooks quickly, gives off little heat and top is cool within seconds of removing the pan. Certainly an option for cooking at home or on the road when it is beastly hot. Happens my pans passed the magnet and induction burner testing.

I love my NuWave. The early ones draw 1300 watts Max. I've used mine right down to 102 volts.

The surface does get warm-but that is because the pot radiates heat to it.

I have reasonable stainless that works well with the Nuwave.

Temperature on the old ones is 10 F per button push with a 100, 175, 275, 375, and sear.

The new ones draw 1500 watts and the increment is 5 f per button push.

Both can be programmed. With no program they will shut down after 90 minutes.

It's way too hot & humid to cook outside. Sweating just sitting in a chair for 2-3 minutes. We are inside in the A/C and we cook inside. We just try not to use the convection oven as it does vent hot air. We use the cooktop, microwave and crockpot. It's also very easy to make burgers, brats, chicken wrap sandwiches and sides of various salads. Or just have chips with the burgers. Ice cream for desert, jello's, pudding, cold applesauce. Lots of good food that doesn't take much cooking.

Chips & cheese deluxe, tacos are good too.

If above all fails - just go to a restaurant and let them cook.
