Super duper plug in code scanner w. WiFi?

I have a small code scanner module where you plug it in, it wakes up and makes WiFi. You use an app on your phone to read the codes.

I have been watching repair videos and see guys with these seemingly much better code scanners.

Is there a pro level scanner that is in this small module format and if so, what do you recommend?

  • Don't the videos you're watching say anything about the tools they're using? Seems like that would be the place to get an answer to your questions.

I have a few of the plug-in devices that use Blu-Tooth to communicate with the app on my Android phone. One is called "Torque" that I use a lot (I bought the "pro" no-ad version) and the other is "Car Scanner" which I haven't warmed up to as of yet but I did buy the no-ad version of that app also. They've help me diagnose problems that lit me "Service Engine Soon" light and reset it after I made repairs. Anyone that still does some of their own work should have one in their toolbox today.
  • The "pro" level scanner do come with bluetooth dongles, but all of them seem to use a tablet size display unit, some smaller, some larger.

The pro ones require a subscription service for constant updates. This cost at least $100/mo.
  • I have one of those “cheap” plug in modules and use the Dash Command app on my iPad.
I can check and reset codes as you would expect but also look at and monitor critical engine functions.
I guess it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
For a <$20 investment, I am happy with what I have.

You can buy “Pro” level apps, but your gunna pay for it.
