TC Refrigerator advice

I have always had larger RV fridges in my TT. Got the new TC home and turned on the 2.0 c.f. Dometic on electric. It doesn't have a freezer just refrigerator. No door shelves - very basic small RV refrigerator. After a few hours it was 40ish degrees. But by the next day it had warmed up to 56 degrees!

Is this normal for these small units? I have no food in yet, just trying it all out. My TT Dometic would stay cold for days before I loaded it with food.

Granted it's been hot here (80's) but this thing is way too warm to keep food safely. Is it b/c it's empty? As I type this I wonder if DH turned it down as low as it can go? The temp. control slide is located on the outside of the TC in the exterior control panel. I've also never had one that I had to light from the outside before.... not sure how I like this one.
  • No, it should work better than that. Maybe it just needs some maint.
  • It's a 2013 brand new TC.

I've never paid much attention to the refrigerator advice on here b/c mine have always been ice cold :) Now I'm racking my brain trying to remember what people have said in the past...
  • Brand new fridge? Should work better than that. Try on gas. definatly not right.

  • One of the rebuilders of the RV refrigerator coils sent a chart to go by that shows what the box should be with it properly leveled, door sealed, operating unit based on ambient temperatures. Here is the list he sent me. My unit runs close to these numbers over the limited range I've tested it.

  • Does the fridge coils face the sun? We try to park with the coils in the shade or early morning sun. I also use a battery operated fan inside the fridge from camping world. I thought about hard wiring the fan. However, the on board batteries last the entire season. I've seen Solar RV fans for the coils. I don't have a dometic.

+1 for the fan inside the fridge. We bought one off eBay that connects to the campers 12 VDC. Put an in-line fuse and switch...we're good to go. fan really does help.
  • Thanks for the suggestions. I still think this new fridge may be wonky b/c it's only 80's degrees here and none of my other (3) TT refrigerators ever had this problem.
