Tekonsha constant duty isolator

I have searched the internet for hours and can not find the AMP draw on the coil to activate the relay. I would like to put a fuse between the Ignition point and the trigger side of the relay, just for safety. I have the four post version, but do not have the box for a part number and there is not one stamped on the isolator.

I know that I'll put a 30A resettable breaker on the Battery Feed side of the isolator. That will be plenty to charge the batteries while driving.

I would like to get this portion squared away before I start hanging battery boxes off the frame rails for more battery capacity.

Thanx in advance:

  • Suggest you measure the current draw
As Fred said a 5amp fuse should be good

From what I have seen the coil current varies quite a lot between different manufacturers and models. Seen some as high as a few amps and some less than a 1/2 amp. I assume yours is a 100% Duty Cycle Solenoid. Some run hot to the touch and some cool.

Sounds like Fred got a good one
I found these folks to have good quality and a great price

  • 5 amp fuse for the coil should be more than enough.

I have a 125 amp rated forklift contactor between my engine and coach battery, and it works great after 12 years. Grainger.com 6C017 It draws less than 1.2 amps when on. It has silver allow contacts, is rated to go on and off 100,000 times under load before wearing out. Cost was only about $18 back then. I see it is $45 now.

    Fred.
