temp patch on a cracked gray water pipe ??

my dad just purchased a new camper, when we got it home i noticed water leaking under the belly, out of a gray water outlet fitting, all seems tight, but it looks like a fitting is cracked, is there something i can use to put a patch on for a few weeks, some sort of tape(gorilla)or patch ?
Thanks for any info
  • Not sure if your fitting is going to be replaced with the tank but if it is. There is a marine product called west system. The stuff work great but beware once its on it ain't coming off. Also, very expensive i would try and see if you have aboat place or friend that has some. It works sealed my black water tank in my keystone montana. Worked awesome.
    Good luck!

Me too. Several layers of it will seal the crack and when you eventually fix it right, there's nothing in the way to take off.
(I do like the solder iron idea though!)

  • There is a tape (one name is Atomic Tape) it was developed for the military. It is self sealing tape. I've seen it at RV shops, Hardware stores and Lowes/Home Depot type stores. It looks like electrical or vinyl tape.

As you wrap it, it seals and will hold when wet or under pressure.

I've also read of people using JB Weld to seal PVC or ABS plastic.
  • I am a plumber, and it has been decades since I last used ABS -- everything since has been PVC. Anyways, what we used to do when we had a split in a piece of ABS pipe was get a soldering iron/gun (or a red-hot nail in a pinch) and melt the ABS along the center of the crack. While the ABS was very hot and melted, we would push the melted plastic together in the middle -- we would do about a half-inch at a time, but keeping the entire length of the repair continuous. This almost always worked for 100% of the split on the first shot. If one section didn't work, we would try to re-do it, but for some reason, ABS didn't like to be melted a second time and it didn't always work. We would even do this fix while we had a water test on the system, so I know it will work if you have a little bit of nasty water left in your tank and pipe.
