Just in case I am one of those morons you are referring to,I have no further suggestions of help for you,but hope you are equally adept at ceiling repairs as electical solving.BarneyS wrote:

It is wrong to move this to the Tech forum. This thread is about DIY ceiling work. A small group of morons got to typing a bunch after their evening cocktails and cant seem to see the point of the original post. - FreightguyExplorer*
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIA condenser "Short" not possible. for it is not an electrical device.
How did it manage to "Short" the 120 volt line? They are nowhere near each other.
Are you sure the 120 volt line is shorted? - FreightguyExplorer*

Did you in fact disconnect each wire between the breaker box and the AC/Did you check the compressor and fan for short or grounded circuit with no 110 volt wires connected.Did you check the capacitor and other connection points for continuity?Check each wire out individually to be sure you have that reversal problem before yanking and reinstalling new wire. You do know that under certain conditions there can be voltage on the neutral wire.Keep checking every thing and consider consulting a seasoned tradesman.mayo30 wrote:
Where in the rv did this short and reversal of polarity take place? In a junction box,in the wall,I am sorry i really am puzzled at this.If the AC went to ground the breaker trips opening the circuit. What exactly is the ac problem, amazing story.
Not sure yet on the location other than my breaker box is under the fridge, all good there, but at the ac which is about 10 feet away its crossed. Hopefully when I receiver the new AC and yank the other I will find the short close to the AC so I dont have to do too much in the ceiling.
The AC issue is something happened and shorted the compressor, when that happens you need a new one so just get a new AC.
He's using the word "common". Nobody uses that word when talking 110 volt A/C current. We use the term neutral. He's thinking 12 volts and that black is ground. If I'm correct (and I always am) lets just hope he's still alive and reads all this!
Your last sentence was the best advice!!! He needs to hire someone. I hope he still has walls! - TNGW1500SEExplorerSet your meter to test A/C voltage
Set at a range greater than 110 volts
Measure voltage between black wire and white wire
Should be 110 or so
Measure voltage between black and bare wire
Should be 110 or so
Measure between white and bare wire
Should be zero
NOTE!!!
IF YOUR ARE NOT SURE YOU CAN HANDLE THAT. DON'T DO IT!!!
IT CAN KILL YOU!!!!!
Post results of test! - mayo30Explorer
