Tiny jumper packs/power supplies

I linked to the products just for an FYI.

I don't need a jumpstarter or a portable power pack at this time. I'm not interested in any of the common jumperpacks either, there is nothing new or unexpected on that front.

I thought it was interesting something little larger than a laptop battery is able to jump start assist or start an engine just on its lonesome.

The products I linked are not lead acid batteries, not AGM.

I think one of the linked products has NiMH cells, the other claims Lithium Ion, perhaps 18650 cells, like laptop battery packs. I do not know their capacity ratings.

If they are able to crank engines with sub 1 pound battery packs, perhaps with the assistance of capacitors, then that right there is a significant weight savings compared to a traditional starting battery. Such a lightweight "battery" can help Auto manufacturers to meet future CAFE standards, and once it becomes commonplace for them, it becomes affordable for us.

Perhaps the linked products are the beginning of the end for lead acid starting batteries, and perhaps deep cycle applications too.

actually if you already have a generator it actually is probably free. most folks probably already have a charger. :)
but to get back to the OPs issue? probably just spending that $69 for an extra battery would suffice. what was the amp hour rating of those two he linked to?

Would it be better to carry a Schumacher starter that can do 40+ amps and a Honda eu2000 generator? I've jumped a completely dead battery using this method. As an added bonus, there is no arcing when the jumper cables are attached and removed, so there is less chance of frying some delicate component buried somewhere inaccessible.

I like to carry a Jump N Carry along, it will start a completely dead battery. We even used them at work to start our Diesel Trucks. Plus I have used it to run my inverter to watch TV, gets thru 2 movies with no problem.

Those jump start packs do not have a whole lot of amp hours.. I have seen them in the 20-30 amp hour range, and I suspect they make them in the 50 amp hour range.

They are AGM batteries, which can take quite a bit of abuse.

They do not need to provide all the cranking capacity however. When you hook up they start to transfer charge to the vehicle's primary battery.. THEN they provide the rest.

That said, the box I used to carry had a 1,000 amp peak rating, The one Im looking to buy is a fraction of that but Im more interested in portable 12vdc than I am jump starting anything bigger than a Onan 5500.

what are the amp hour ratings for both of them?

I read the reviews on Amazon and it looks like the product in the first link is pretty impressive. Two diesel owners claim it started their trucks. Overall, very good reviews. Not cheap though.
