Toilet seals R & Ring tutorials?

I've got a Thetford Aqua Magic toilet, circa 2002 in my Class C that won't hold water, so the seal must be worn out. Are there any how tos on the Net for how the toilet is R & R'ed? Also, are there sources for the seal-kits aftermarket on the Net? Thanks!

All Thetford toilets are Aqua Magic- the exact model is needed to get the right seal. The AM IV is dead easy to replace- don't even need to remove the toilet.
Others are not at all easy :)
    What's an "AM IV" ?

That's Aqua Magic IV- there's Aqua Magic V, Aqua Magic Bravura, Aqua Magic Style, Aqua Magic Style II. You can see the lineup here.

  • Biggest problem for me was getting my old body into a position to work on the toilet in the small space! Otherwise not a bad job.

You can also pick up a product that is supposed to soften and rejuvenate the seals.

Before you jump to 'it must be broke'.......

99% of the time there is some minute small piece of tp paper stuck in the small place that blade has to go into preventing the blade to close tightly enough to prevent the water from leaking out.

Hold the blade open and take a soft brush and clean around the opening. Add a little bit of Vaseline to the blade and seal.

You just might find out you do NOT have to replace it.
  • If you are in the least bit handy it'll be a breeze. Just did mine yesterday and it's probably the 10th one I've done, not just my own... Order the seals on Amazon (should have upper and lower seal) and get them in a week. It will have instructions in the package of seals.

Rubber gloves, sockets/wrenches, roll of blue shop towels, Walmart bag for trash, scotchbrite pad, strong cleaner like Purple Power, small scraper (I use a medium screwdriver), phillips screwdriver, 303 protectant, and a knee pad and you're set. After it's all cleaned up I use the 303 to wipe down the inside after it's clean and it helps to stay clean longer. Make sure the ball is spotless before you put the new seal in or you're wasting your time. I know this from the first one I did...

It took me about 45 minutes yesterday and 90% of that is cleaning. Hope this helps.
  • Here's a link to an installation video. Maybe you'll get enough info out of that.

It's a lot like R&R of toilet in your stick built house.

    Disconnect water feed line.

Remove the one nut on each side of the base.

    Lift toilet out.

Be carefull while changing the blade seal. The parts up inside there, are spring loaded. Very easy to lose a part or two. Also, it's quite messy up in there.
