OK, on power 30 amp service is 3 wire: one hot, one neutral, one ground. You get 3,600 watts of usable power (120 vac X 30 amps)
50 amp service is 4 wire with two separate hots, one neutral and one ground. So, that's really two 50 amp lines that total 100 amps and give you 12,000 watts of usable power (120 vac X 100 amps).
