Troubles with Xantrex 2000/4000 inverter charger

Hi All,
We bought a new Arctic Fox TT and wanted the microwave and a few outlets wired in to a good sized inverter for ease of convenience. The above inverter also has a 55 amp battery charger. Everything works wonderfully except the inverter does not recognize when the on board Onan genny is running. The micro wave and selected outlets suck the batteries down even tho the gen is running. The inverter recognizes when plugged in to shore power. My Dealer has had it for 4 months and can not figure it out. Any ideas/suggestions would help immensely. Thanks....DJ
  • Hold the phone! You let the dealer have your new rig for 4 months? Never ever do that. And he doesn't know what the problem is? He clearly doesn't know what he's doing and probably has no intention to help.

Go to Arctic Fox and get good tech help. Insist on taking it to a good qualified shop - they are available.

I checked the Xantrex website for a 2000/4000 inverter charger and found none. What model do you have? Maybe a 2000W model with 4000W surge capability or something else.
  • Would help if you could tell us the power sequence on how the inverter is wired.
And post the actual Xantrex model number.

Otherwise you need a different service provider. This stuff is not difficult.
  • I am not familiar with a Xantrex 2000/4000, but if like all the other Xantrex units I have worked on.....

Should be VERY simple to trace:

Shore power and generator should "meet" at the ATS.

From ATS both sources go to the RV main breaker box.

There should be a breaker on the main breaker box going to the inverter/charger.

And when the inverter/charger "sees" 120 VAC from that source, it does TWO things: charges batteries and through its built-in transfer switch, changes from "inverted power" to that supplied from the main breaker box.

If the charger section of the inverter/charger is working (meaning that 120 VAC is getting to the inverter, then "first suspect" is the transfer switch in the inverter/charger.
