upgrade xantrex 1000 to xantrex 1800

Can I upgrade my (dead) 1000 for a new 1800 with the existing wiring/batteries???
Would be a simple switch out as the boxes are essentially the same.
Also does anyone have any comments on the newer HF models?
thanx!
  • As long as the existing wire meets your needs and is properly fused you should be fine.

HF? HF is just a reseller of low end goods. When my Xantrex Prosine 1800 gave up too soon I moved on to GoPower. So far so good.
  • Generally, yes. If you are planning to run more stuff with the larger inverter you may need to add some battery capacity and hopefully, you are installing an inverter/charger to be able to recharge that larger battery bank.
Take a look at the installation instructions on line and compare it to your current installation. The run from the batteries to the inverter needs to be as short as possible and the cables may need to be replaced with thicker ones.
