using 400 watt solar kit w/ extra battery I already have....

The more I read, the more confused I get, partly because of things like people writing articles under the assumption that "RV" means motorhome with alternator charging the batteries, etc. ...

I have a 25' travel trailer that's going to sit in one spot on my land for a few months. Figured out how to hook up two 100-watt solar panels through the charge controller into the onboard battery that's on the tongue. This is plenty for the D/C things in the RV, on sunny days (maybe even cloudy days, too).

Ended up with a second RV/Marine battery. Seems like with both of these batteries, I should have enough A/C and D/C power for everything but the air conditioner. I thought maybe I could leave the original RV battery where it belongs, and put all four 100-watt panels charging the second RV/Marine battery, hook up the 1500-watt inverter to that, and plug the RV A/C power cord into the inverter so I could run the flat-screen TVs and a couple of lamps with LED bulbs in them.

The RV has a converter that seems to work perfectly.

I first thought that maybe I would put this solar panel/2nd battery/inverter outfit in a temporary shed beside the RV -- if I can figure out how to get a ground rod into this solid rock.

Or, maybe I could build a box and put the 2nd battery/inverter on the back of the RV and charge that 2nd battery with the solar panels. Or would that still need an earth ground if it's kept separate from the RV systems except for the plug-in?

I do not "get" how onboard inverters work in a motorhome, so I can't even start there....

thanks for any input
