- ependydadExplorerMy concern with re-using wrecked packs is not knowing what kind of internal damage they might have ESPECIALLY after reading about this golf cart battery fire/explosion on the Escapees forums:

FWIW, Michelle is my cousin! :B Actually, they're using an entire Leaf "Lizard" (> 2013) battery plus one extra module, to make the numbers work out right. I want to build one about 1/5 that size but the spare cash just isn't available right now.
They started this project looking for a "fixer-upper" and ended up with a "gut 'n rebuild". They're likely a year behind their scheduled full-time adventure timetable.
Lyle - GordonThreeExplorerI've inquired several times to buy the battery from wrecked EV around here. #1 not many EV up here in winter wonderland. #2 standing orders from companies in California for all lithium chemistry battery packs.
Such a strong market in recovering the cells and reselling them, the local guys seem to get paid pretty good to just load the wreck on a flatbed and send it West. - John___AngelaExplorerInteresting stuff. Thanks for sharing. Wrecked Leaf batteries should come down in price a bit now that Nissan’s replacement pack program for earlier models is coming on lines. I don’t have the link handy but the replacement pack prices are around 2800 for the 24 KWH pack and 3300 ish for the 30 KWH pack. You have to return your old pack though. Folks in real hot locations still see faster than normal degradation though, even with the new packs. We haven’t seen that on ours yet but other than a couple months of summer the climate here is reasonably mild. Our km per kWh has now creeped up to 6.5 but I think that is related to the tires wearing in after a couple or so years.
That Arizona family is pretty interesting. Would love to see his setup. - MrWizardModeratorJeHu is into electric vehicles

Do you have a link for the Arizona folks? - GordonThreeExplorerGood for the Mortons to get featured like that, but hardly a new idea.
My favorite right now is the Arizona family rebuilding a vintage passenger bus. They built their power system around several Leaf lithium battery packs and a bunch of Victron gear. Something I haven't see the other re-used lithium folks do, they installed a small air conditioner in the battery bay to keep the packs at a healthy temperature.
