Whoa!! Thanks @wnjj! I've never seen that second one before. I could drop a short 50A receptical just below the panel that way! That would be SOOOOO much cleaner, meet code, AND not have to fiddle with the dryer switch.... WOW. BEST. POST. EVER. Thank you!
