V-10, She cranks good, but she's a No Start

2001 V-10 cranks good but no start. That's the intermittent problem a friend is having. The next morning it usually starts.....runs normal.
Could a bad fuel pump act like that ? Or are we talking a bad connection to either the pump or the coils ?
He did not check for spark,.....I think he is afraid of it. So am I !

Any ideas >

  • I would tend to guess not the coils, since it seems rather unlikely that ten coils would all be intermittent in unison. The engine should start and run (albeit roughly) with a coil not working.

Fuel pump or associated parts seems like a good guess to me. It might also be a friend of Stewart Little or Chip & Dale snacking on the wiring somewhere.
  • Yes, it could be the fuel pump relay. If like many, it charges the fuel system, then shuts off.
You might also check for OBD codes. It may set a code but not turn on the engine check light.
