- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerCaliforniagrad, is not part of the universe I'm afraid. Especially the central coast region. Newspapers have extensive articles describing homeowners in San Francisco chortling over their million dollar shacks that would cost 15,000 dollars down here. Yes it is entertaining seeing someone chortle over having the living snot property taxed out of them for a ghetto grade home. The San Francisco Chronicle is nothing more than a yuppie real estate magazine for hookah puffers.
Billions in gasoline taxes collected and poor Pablo nearly had the front end ripped out of his new Toyota on Interstate 805 by a section of hole adjacent to an overpass abutment. I bit my cheek. Gasoline costs one dollar a gallon higher for these improved highways.
So when humanity agrees a car is a piece of **** but California disagrees, it suits them. And me.
A question or two:
Is there a common denominator for electric car drive trains? A manufacturer (who would be a subcontractor) to supply motor and drive trains?
And has there been extensive CONSUMER study of electric battery use regarding cycle life versus DOD of the lithium batteries? How about sourcing of different Chinese made Japanese supervised lithium batteries? Comparisons between Far East and Tesla USA batteries? Battery management systems for universal application?
I have never seen such quick adaptation of new technology minus common sense analysis. People are rushing utterly blind into this technology. A multi-thousand dollar battery pack at 120,000 miles. Solly Charley my toad wil go twice that. And what happens to DANGEROUS scrapped cells? Exactly how are bad cells recycled. Where do they go and is there information as to how much energy has to go into a turnaround versus manufacturing of a cell with raw virgin material?

I watched part of the video, but ... what's with this part of the strange sentence under the video?
"I Bought the Most Hated Car on the Internet ....."
My immediate reaction to that phrase was ... huuuuuh?? They're all over here in Central CA ... where techies think that they rule.
My sister-in-law has had one for years and she loves it - and she has taken long road trips in it. It's probably a good thing that she's not "into the Internet" enough to ruin here serenity. ;) - Itinerant1ExplorerThis is 12v 500ah consisting of 4 prismatic cells in series (100ah), 5 parallel (500ah). 6.4kWh Weight 143#

Mex nice video find. He did make it look easy though. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerMe? My time for such hobbies and tasks are long over. Like I like to joke about buying a quart of oil or quart of Mayonnaise may include a lifetime warranty. My fiddling around on the test bench is as far as it goes.
I thought the video was well made and I learned a lot construction and mounting wise.
My era is fading like that of the lamplighter or the guy shoveling coal in the basement of the tenement. Clank on the radiator for more heat.
Carburetors, typewriters, placing a long-distance call with the operator. Nylon tire cord flat-spotting, Monkey Wards, Good Night Chet Good Night David, that was my prime time. - AlmotExplorer IIIMex, save pennies, buy a battery from a totaled car. Will end up like that guy, link posted here a year ago. Battery in his golf cart blew up in the middle of the night, without charging. Internal short caused by earlier damage. Cart gone up in smoke, parked under his 5-er, so no 5-er anymore, either.

Thanks Don!
How about some links to pictures of prismatic Li cells? - pianotunaNomad IIIPhil,
Prismatic cells can be used. They are a large format design. - buckyExplorer IIComing from the repair side of the business that entire battery pack should have been a plug and play. All of those ancillary pieces probably cost $5 but made the process unnecessarily tedious.
The video was very well done, great job. - pnicholsExplorer IIRiddle me this: Are large capacity lithium batteries (such as are in electric vehicles) made up of a whole bunch of little individual cells (about AA size) ... or has lithium battery technology/chemistry advanced to where lithium batteries of low cell-count but large amp hour capacities (as in lead acid golf cart 6V batteries with 3 cells, and as in lead acid group sizes 12V batteries with 6 cells) can be manufactured?
I would hope that nowadays a Tesla's battery pack doesn't have to be made up of hundreds of little tiny cells - with all those interconnects required in order to hook them all together.
