RJ, because it can develop MORE POWER than the HF floater. Like a LOT more amperage if called upon to do so. My unit can reach almost three amperes on a depleted battery.
Uh oh, gotta go. I need to disconnect four or five battery boilers. Better not start your car either. This is a crisis! Sound the alarm! The only RV battery that boils at 13.8 volts is a BAD RV battery. When it's 45C here, I will set solar controllers back to 13.5 volts. Do you know of a place where RV's are stored for the winter at 40C?
13.8 is perfectly fine to temps to around 32C. Solder in a 29 cent shottky diode and presto...13.4 volts and you're good to go to around 40C.
