Definitely. Even my stupid car, developed 13.7 volts in 50C air temperatures (the battery was too hot to touch). AND I HAVE N-E-V-E-R added a drop of water to it in three years.
Chargers that insist on 13.2 volts constant will slowly but surely sulfate a battery over the course of six months storage. It would take a couple of seasons with no equalization or top charging, but with inadequate charging "Smart Chargers" I guarantee in 18 months of storage in 36 total the battery will be significantly sulfated. I would LOVE to see the RV battery that 13.8 volts causes loss of electrolyte level. No I don't mean bad batteries.
I left a HARBOR FRIGHT gizmo connected to a group 31 for three solid months WITHOUT THE REGULATOR which had failed. There was no significant loss of electrolyte. 800ma straight up kept the battery voltage at 13.62. Where are these Harbor Fright overcharge stories coming from?
A battery floated at 14.2 volts 25C will slowly but surely need watering. Voltage needs to be reduced.
Like most things technical or political moderation needs to be avoided. Only extremes and hyperbole are allowable into battery discussions. I just wish some folks would actually TRY OUT their theories before trying to post them as gospel. No engineer and no technical article author wants to be labelled as a "me too" expert. I don't give a damn how boring a repetitive subject or specification may be, correct is correct. Signature variances are at the least, suspect.
