Radio Shack has them by the dozens.
A cylindrical plastic tube with a solid wire coming out both ends. The SIX AMP version has heavier wire and may be easier to deal with. Your choice

WHERE ARE THE 3 AND 6 AMP AXIAL DIODES.
The plastic tube will have a white band around it on one end.
The white band side goes closest to the battery. Pretty simple. Because of the ultra light amperage load, you can use a RED WIRE CRIMP BUTT CONNECTOR to join the diode's solid wire to stranded wire that comes from the charger and continues to the battery positive. Squeeze the hell out of the butt connector crimp.
A SHOTTKY diode is exactly the same thing but instead of dropping voltage .7 volt it will drop voltage only .4 volt. Sometimes .3 volt. Your choice for fine-tuning the float voltage.
