Water Heater

Recently our Suburban water Heater just stopped. Gas function still works perfectly. I checked the breakers, pulled the heating element, checked the reset control(doesn't seem to be any problems). The light still comes on at the switch and there is power to and leaving the switch, but no power at the heater. ?? The unit is a 2005 so it is aging. Running out of ideas. ?? Thanks
  • I had to replace my switch at the heater plus one of the power wires. The switch pops in but there are two `arms' on either side of the switch that must be depressed to pop it out; sometimes one side at a time works. Where my heater is located it is a nasty job to do any electrical work. I actually pulled the heater out to do the repair. A tech recently did some more electrical work and was able to get to it under the sink.
  • Thanks guys. "Over There",I'm not a super tech with these issues but rather a jack of all trades etc. Foolishly started at the element and worked my way back. I removed the element and did a test on it. then put it back in checked the voltage to it. None, then pulled the reset out and checked them. looked good and not tripped. "donn0128",I did notice that the little switch on the bottom left looks baked and it with not switch on and off. Stuck in the on position. Feels and looks like it might be cooked. Never taken one out. Does it just pop out with a thin screwdriver? It doesn't seem to have any other access. If that is the problem, does that interrupt power to the element? Thanks again
  • Not uncommon for the temp sensor pack to burn out. Also with Suburbans its not uncommon for it to burn wires, or the little switch down on the bottom left side. You need a volt meter to start tracing wires.
  • How did you check the element itself? So there is power to the element?
