WFCO

Are WFCO converters a good choice ? As good as PROGRESSIVE DYNAMICS ?
  • I have had two PDs, and one WFCO.
The first PD died and was replaced with the second one. They did an OK job for me.
The WFCO was a joke. It never changed modes. It was always in the 13.6-13.8 range. I could have lived with it not going into bulk, but it not going into float was a dealbreaker.
It was replaced with a powermax. I like it the best of the three brands I have owned.
  • Returned home to discover the Whiffie took a powder. Well, so much for being buck naked with a nice breeze flowing...

  • I took my WFCO9855 apart and adjusted RV2 (controls output voltage) and adjusted it to 13.9V as sort of a compromise to the boost mode. I never left it hooked up for days on end to minimize boiling. I think +14V would be better?
  • Tons of info on site discussing the vagaries of "Correct Charge Rate". Temperature, allotted time, battery type all influence what a charge rate should and should not be allowed.

put a resistor in parallel with a switch for best performance. Shoot for 13.4 and 14.6 volts.
  • I get the impression that many of the WFCO haters are dry campers who need to get every last amp-hour out of their batteries, then have them recharged as quickly as possible without damage.

I have found my seven year old WFCO to do a fine job of keeping my lights and appliances running and the battery charged while on shore power, which is all the time.

The point is, you can't reasonably say that a Hyundai sucks just because it isn't a Mercedes.
