Where to find used door for 93 Layton?

Hi all,, we have a 1993 Layton 19foot fifth wheel that we'd like to keep on the road as long as possible. The entry door is literally falling apart. Anyone know of anyplace in either Northern Ca, or Northern NV area that might sell used parts? Don't really want to put the expense of new door, if we can find used. Thanks so much!!

Moved to Tech Issues forum from DIY.

  • I can't help you with finding one, but if the inner and outer skin is ok, making a repair is easy. They are usually just a two by two frame, a skin each side and an aluminum trim screwed to the edge. For a few bucks and an afternoon project you might be able to rebuild yours. New doors are not cheap for all they are made of. BTW use a good quality hardwood and not treated wood as it will warp.
  • The doors can be rebuilt. You can do it yourself if your sorta handy with tools. I rebuilt our fiver door last year, and painted it to match our fiver. It looks great!
  • there are many RV salvage yards around the USA. but also like said above, I have seen many odor rebuilt in our shop and a lot cheaper than new and look like new when they got done with them
  • You might check with a portable building manufacturer. When mine needed fixing/replacing I was able to find one to fit, but decided to rebuild mine. As others have posted, it is not a tough job.

RV doors tend to be made specifically for the RV manufacturer for that particular model. This makes RV doors that fit your application a bit difficult to locate.

With a little effort and a few hand tools you can often disassemble a RV door and either make a new wooden frame or just replace the bad wood.

My trailer I opted to make new doors from scratch.

Typically the framework is made from 1x2s, foam insulation fits in between the frame and the inside and outside panels are glued to the wood and insulation. Hardest part often is getting the panels separated from the glue without damaging it. But if the door has been water damaged enough it most likely will not be all that hard (my old door was easy to pull the panels off).

On edit.. Nuts, google has swallowed my documment, it is no longer viewable..:M
  • Google RV salvage. A good one is Colaws in Carthage, MO.
