Window Tint Film And Solar Heat Issues

Almot you might want to refer to Astronaut helmet viewports. They utilize polarized AU plasma polycarbonate for a reason. The UV factor is like to the third power more intense than at sea level. Same for IR. The film on my windows was applied by a pro. He used a positive pressure squeegee gizmo and farbade me to use cleaners with alcohol or ammonia. I use destilled water with 3 drops of diswashing liquid per liter. Anyone who dares to "light up" in Quicksilver would be in mortal danger. I have a 400 CFM 24 volt squirrel cage exhaust vent above the stove. It is near a nightmare to disassemble and clean. I fry out of doors or don't fry at all. Turns out minimal frying makes me popular with my cardiologist and the window film.

To reduce solar heat, it will have to cut visible light too. They work, yes. The more heat is blocked, the darker is inside.

I was going to suggest fold out awnings, but maybe not when the vehicle is moving ...

On the other hand, have seen old cars with big metal shades over the wind shield. Not too aerodynamic ... but they look cool. Especially when the car is chopped and lowered.

The NASA stuff is one-way. Very gold from the outside. Have to be careful cleaning the film. Need to study more before deciding.

That's great to know that heat reduction doesn't have to mean grey! I wonder if it would be useable on windshields and driver/passenger ones.

Mex, that gold sounds super neato. Does it look like gold foil from the outside, or like clear/sparkly, or what?

If the stuff Luke recommended turns out to be $$, you can buy the grey stuff and apply at home. I bet you could find a place online that woukd send you samples so you can choose which darkness you like.

The toad, thank you Naio. I had an unemployed aerospace engineer apply authentic gold laminate to the side windows of Quicksilver. A truly incredible reduction of infra red entry. Unprotected the rays felt like they were burning the skin through the window.

Neh. Those cars had factory windows. I have "Factory Recall Grade" eyesight. So, even with crystal clear windows I avoid driving at night. I would however like to keep driving at sundown. Tint will be for side and rear windows. I do not need privacy, just heat reduction.

I had tint film put on some west windows of my Florida house. I went with a 30 product, fearing it would block too much light. It's hardly noticeable.

I find tint helps, but shading on the outside is the real deal. Last winter I hung sheets over the windows (selected at the goodwill to match van color :B). This year I plan to sew shade cloth covers, more tidy-looking.

I too used a light limo tint on our RV. Follow the instructions, WASH THE WINDOW,TWICE, and you will get good results, WASH THE WINDOW, TWICE, Mine has been on 10 years and still looks good. IF you ever see a tinted window with little bubbles all over you will know why you have to WASH THE WINDOW.
