Wire up 220V dryer in 5th wheel?

It's confusing mostly to RVers. Would you go to an appliance store and order a 80A dryer for your house? Most likely your decision is gas or electric w/o discussion of BTU's or electricity.

Most of us just think of 2 50A circuits knowing that we don't have 240V appliances in the rig. Because that is what we use - 120V. 240V appliances in a RV are rare.

Yes that's true, at 120v. A dryer, being 240v, will pull roughly 24 amps. So, if you want to think about your service being 100 amps at 120v for some reason then think of your dryer as being 48 amps at 120v.

However, in the electrical trade a 50 amp camper service is 50 amps. The dryer will use roughly half of the capacity. To try and convert to 120v and talk about it as 100 amps is confusing the issue. That's just not the proper way to refer to a circuit.

If you cannot install a new CB in the panel for the washer then also consider:
Install a new panel which becomes the main panel. A 50A dual CB feeds the current panel which then becomes a sub panel and a 30A dual CB feeds the washer.

Could make a separate inlet (30a 240v) for the dryer when needed. Plug it into the 50a connector. Run the RV on the 30a or battery while dryer is in use.

Pro's and cons..

First. in theory what you wish to do (Run I think it's 30 amps at 250 volts) to a common dryer outlet in the laundry area is possible.. PROVIDED, that is, you are on a 50 amp campsite.

On a 30 amp site you can tumble the cloths, but no heat (Please note the switching on this is automatic) so it may even work on 30 amps. Just no heat.

HOWEVER, it's sucking over half of your power on a 50 amp site.. May tend to trip breakers.

But, with energy management and understanding of what is and what isn't ... IT can work

You should use equal or larger wire between load center and sub panel as in shore cord. You never want wire with less capacity than the breaker protecting it. For economy and ease of routing wire,I would locate sub as close to load center as possiable.
From load center to sub is wire same or larger than shore cord. Sub is fused to match dryer and wire from sub to dryer matchs breaker. Some of that is mute if dryer pulls max shore cord is rated for.

To meet code you really need a double breaker.
