- CA_TravelerExplorer IIIFor mostly dry camping running the refer on the inverter only when plugged in makes sense to me. There are efficiency losses for both the charger and inverter that an ATS would eliminate.

Try 100/12*8 hours = 67Ah. On 12/24/14 in Oceanside (S CA) I harvested 113Ah on 750W flat or 113*550/750 = 83Ah.CA Traveler wrote:

Er... flat 550W? with MW and possibly other AC loads? Let's say "for most days in May through August in SoCal" :). In December it won't harvest enough for that fridge alone.
AC and clouds are a deal buster but otherwise he should be OK with the same conditions.
Additional loads, 50% refer cycle time, etc are of course factors. - MrWizardModeratorGrid power direct
Or
Grid power thru inverter
Is still grid power
The difference is the converter works harder
When it is charging the batteries and powering the inverter - wolfe10Explorer

Is it an inverter only or inverter/charger.
Does it have a built in ATS (pass through feature)? - AlmotExplorer III

Doesn't matter, 1/3 of this would be enough for a fridge with start-up current and all. It's a 24 hr nature of fridge that is important when off-grid. 100W fridge will draw about same much as 1000W microwave over 24 hr period. 550W solar - in your parts - should be enough though. 4 GC is good, more capacity = shallower cycle = easier for solar to keep up.
Running fridge on inverter - when you have grid available - still doesn't make sense. - AlmotExplorer IIIDP
- ChopperbobExplorerOh my inverter is 2000 psw.
- ChopperbobExplorerYeah just figured bigger is better. 4 big gc batts.
Trimetric plenty of solar what's not to like. I'm going
to try and run it off the inverter for starters see how
that works. I can always add a ATS later. - GordonThreeExplorer

You guys agree making this way too hard.
guilty ... I often look for the most difficult way to do something, and then work down, instead of starting simple and working up :)
