- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerNow, who said I was gonna park DOWN wind? "Nearby" can mean a cuppla miles upwind. Over that range of hills. A 10mw Worthington natural gas generator could supplement my income and 100,000 gallon hot tub would be delightful. Centuries ago I remember sitting in the hot springs at Markleeville, CA. around Christmas, with snowflakes melting on the tip of my nose.
Gonna talk about jooze might as well carry the number to the millions column. - mlts22Explorer IIThere are so many factors that make a battery usable for RV-ing, be it energy density by weight, energy density by volume, safety, charge curves, discharge curves, physical damage resistance, and so on.
I really wish Truma's VeGA fuel cell that ran on propane got off the ground. That would have killed the absorption fridge, and would constantly provide a trickle charge for existing battery banks, counteracting the draw of fridges, electronics, and the furnace fan.
If I were to place money in R&D, I'd see about usable, inexpensive fuel cells that could use propane, just because propane is more energy-dense than any battery out there. - NinerBikesExplorer

No you don't.... been down wind of one leaking for months now.

Goopy residue inside and outside homes in Porter Ranch - pianotunaNomad IIII started a thread a few weeks ago. It appears to include an inverter/charger. It seems to be limited to 15 amps/1800 watts. That would be pretty nice if it could run a roof air conditioner.

- DuctapeExplorerSomehow batteries turned into a debate on gas cans???
I can (did) purchase a solar battery recharger.
Who has their own gasoline refinery to fill those tanks? - HuntindogExplorer

I love nasty weather when hunting. Most everyone else goes home, leaving the woods to us.
The weather usually clears at some point, but the people are not there to take advantage of it. SOME eventually come back.. But most do not, and those that come back have missed some of the best hunting.
Oh, sure!
That's cool. We call it a Haboob now in phoenix. For years it was just called a dust storm.
They are not really a big deal other than the mess they make, and driving in them is dangerous. Those come and go pretty quickly... I don't as a rule do much camping in the desert though - mcheroExplorer"Solar is nice when the weather is nice."

Better energy storage is going to end up in less fuel being consumed, I guess. Not a bad thing. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerAhem
Without question the hot setup in power generation is falling water. Mother nature does all the heavy lifting, except for manufacturing process pollution the energy is the cleanest this planet will ever see, and after doing multiple studies in the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains, I am convinced there is at least 200 gigawatts of potential available without disrupting trout fishing, aesthetics, or anything else. One stream had a near vertical fall of 1,700 ft and a flow of 23cf per second - enough to light a large town.
My opinion is that it is wonderful so much energy and interest is being put into battery innovation. It's hard to tell where this is going to end up but one thing for a fact, the omission of studies into creating affordable better insulation ranks right up there with the biggest blunders of the modern era. Demand every food storage flask be of vacuum design. Create vacuum panel insulation for refrigerators, cars, houses, and all habitations. Glass is the traditional medium, how about vitreous impregnated carbon fibers? Strong, ultra lightweight and flexible.
Offer a 5 billion dollar tax-free reward for the invention of a process that extracts carbon from carbon dioxide, leaving only O2 and carbon ready for carbon fiber manufacture.
