My guess is the Rams had manual transmissions. The Ford had an auto.
In this type of a situation an auto will win most of the time.
Much easier to control the power delivery with an auto than a manual.
You can see where the first Ram spooled up his turbo. That was totally not needed as a diesel can easily put down enough power to break traction without the need of a turbo.
Watch the cars at a drag strip. The ones that break traction by putting too much power down at the start line will almost always lose the race.
