10% TW to 13% TW...did not seem to make any difference

After increasing our TW to 13%, to help with how our TT Toy Hauler towed over the rough pavement of I-10, we noticed no improvement..

I measure my TW each time prior to hooking up (...I am a bit anal about it) and was at 10% at the start of our trip. The ride on I-10 really stunk and was uncomfortable in the TV. After posting here, folks reccomended increasing TW.

So I increased the TW to 13% and the ride still stunk....as best DW and I could tell there was no difference....if anything it was worse at 13%.

Now I do tow with a Hensley and Hensley said they did not expect me to see an iprovement in ride quality due to increasing TW. They said the Hensley handles the lower TWs just fine....at least in my case, it looks like they were correct...
  • Truck has 50K+ miles on it....I am considering changing out the shocks for Bilstein shocks...not sure it will help but truck probably could use new shocks anyway...
  • Thanks for the questions and interest. Here is more info:

    1) Tow Vehicle 2010 F250, Crew Cab, 2 WD, Diesel
    2) No helper springs, only airbags. Which I have tried at 10 pounds increments from 5 to 45 pounds...none seem to help.
    3) WD was set up so that the front of truck (measured at wheel wells) is half way between unhitched and hitched (without WD engaged) height (per Fords instructions).
    4) Tire pressure on Truck is 70 in rear and 60 in front (per door placard on truck)
    5) Trailer has equia-Flex suspension.

I am scratching my head on this one, so any inputs or thoughts would be appreciated.
  • Describe what "ride still stunk" feels like in the truck. Try and be specific.

Odds "may" be more that the WD setup on the truck and tires pressure may have more affect the lower TW.

What are you using for a guide to declare proper WD on the F250?

Does your truck have overload springs in the back (helper springs)?
