All vehicles are different, but all drivers are different too. I typically get at least 2-3 MPG better than my wife in the same vehicle in our normal around town driving just because I do certain things to avoid excessive fuel usage. She's a good driver and knows the same tricks, but doesn't care enough to bother with them. In some ways, I envy her.

I sure wish I would get the diesels that get 22mpg at 75 mph and big block gassers that get almost 20mpg.
Guess every truck I've had from the big 3 in the last 20 years, been about 25 of them has been a poor fuel mileage anomaly, cause every gasser from 4.6 to 6.2 L has averaged 11-15mpg and every diesel 16-18mpg.......

Sounds like an impressive combo, with better real world MPGs than people seem to be getting out of Ecoboosts. I've got a friend who's had two and his towing MPG has been in the single digits consistently, and only at about 14 or 15 unloaded.

Sweet - I have two good tows in my 6.2l/6 speed and I admit its quieter and pulls the hills as good as my last two 5.9l diesels! Was very impressed for a gasser and had 3 better towing mpg than my last truck. (5.7l 2500). Best part was the engine breaking it offered on the hills - almost too good to believe for a gas engine. Easily my favorite of the last 4 trucks I've had..

Just to update. Truck has 2500 trouble free miles now and we just got back from our first trip of the year. It's just a short 50 mile trip each way. Truck towed great, stopped great and seems even quieter when towing. We took the interstate on the way there and cruised at 63 mph pulling 8300lbs. The truck ran in 6th and 7th gear except for 1 or 2 hills when it shifted down to 5th. I would say it spent 90% of the time in 6th. I cleared the DIC when we left and when we pulled in the park it read 11.1 mpg. Cleared it again for the way home and decided to try the secondary route that is 55 mph. Cruising at 57mph except for lower posted areas, it ran in mostly 5/6th gear at right around 2200 rpms and read 10.9 mpg when we arrived at the house. Acceleration is impressive to put it mildly. It's something to get used to hearing it shift so quickly. I don't think I put it over 3-3500rpm's. Non-towing mileage has been 17-18mpg combined. This truck works very well for what we need. I'm very happy with it.

A reasonable person would compare model year to model year or as close as is reasonable. To do anything else in today's ever advancing market would be ridiculous.

5T I believe is short for 5 ton, but I couldn't swear to it.

I suppose so. Reasonable people compleatly disregard the existence of any other truck.

I'm sorry, but it's totally Plausable for someone to change from an old 3/4 ton to a new 1/2 ton that's more capable.

Yep, some of us have made the switch and it is working out great. Not that my F150 outpulls or outhauls my 2500HD, but it does the job equally well given the task we put it to (towing a 6500# travel trailer). Just returned from a 550 mile trip and was again very impressed by its performance and capability. All about the right tool for the job.

OP, nice truck and happy to hear the reports. I was all but set on the Expedition EL Ecoboost for our next family vehicle, but everything I've read about the 6.2/8 spd has been great. If GM puts that combo in a Suburban (I know it is in the GMC Denali right now, but ...) in a package w/ around 1500# payload, there might be a little competition for when we replace our family vehicle in the next year or 2.
