- HarmsWayExplorerWhen I haven't been out of the house for a while and the location is good even coffee grounds boiled in a pot over the fire tastes great. However my personal preference is a Melitta filter into a stainless thermal carafe (that was from an old drip machine). There are always ways to boil water and french press coffee is too gritty for me.
Unfortunately lately I've been making lattes for my DW most evenings at home so I'll probably have to figure out how to do that from the camper now. - billtexExplorer II

This is what I do in the TC as well... makes great drip-coffee and is much easier to clean up than a French press.
I'll note that I do use a French press at home and love it.

I have heard this before. Can someone explain why it is so hard to clean a French Press? All you do is dump the grounds. Why is it different than using a drip cone?
Am I missing something?

See what you have done? You ask us what time it is, and we tell you how to build a watch.
anyone using 12 V coffee maker ? how does it work & what kind?
I am not sure if we are off topic or not, if so please tell us.

Moderator - Reddog1Explorer III not only consider the taste of the coffee which is the first requirement, but also storage of the device, preparing the maker, cleaning the maker, how much water required to clean the maker and how many cups it makes. I do not like to use more water cleaning the maker, than I use in the coffee itself. I also do not like to rinse coffee grounds into the gray tank.
I may want two cups or ten (company), and prefer not to make one cup at a time. I might even take the pot outside and put it on the campfire. You can't do that with most coffeemakers.
I would like to have a nice thermos. I do not want one that is real fragile.
Wayne - Monaco_MontclaiExplorerwe have one that works off the propane burners. works for us. now its all happy-camping

We use a percolator also. Wonder if that basic technology is becoming a lost art?
Some are a little more particular about flavor. - mkirschNomad IIAs a rule of thumb, a 12VDC appliance is going to require roughly 10X the current of a 120VAC appliance to perform the same function.
* - This is not wholly accurate due to the nuances of AC vs. DC and resistive vs. inductive loads, but it is a good RULE OF THUMB that people without 4 years of physics and/or an electrical engineering degree can work with.
Something that takes 7 Amps like a coffee maker will take around 70 Amps to perform the same function in the same amount of time.
As a tradeoff to not having to direct-wire the coffee maker straight to your battery bank using automotive jumper cables, and not having a coffee maker the size of a microwave oven, the heating element is designed to draw less power. That's why it takes longer. - billtexExplorer II

I tries the French Press and did not like it. The coffee was okay, but I did not like the process.
Process? All you have to do is boil water and pour it in...
